 SOUTHERN FRIED WILD TURKEY TENDERS

By Pat Kolbe, BUCK FEVER OUTDOORS

I don’t judge all of my wildgame recipes by whether or not my kids readily eat it – but I do know when they devour something down in seconds and ask for more that I’ve hit a golden recipe! This is one of those – Southern Fried Wild Turkey Tenders!

If you’ve ever deep fried fish, this is a similar process. Cut your wild turkey breasts into small strips, give each strip an egg wash, then dip and cover each tender in Kentucky Kernel seasoned flour. If you like a little heat, I add some Shore Lunch Buffalo Style breading and mix the two together — but that is usually reserved for the last batch.

Fry em up to a golden brown goodness and get those favorite BBQ or wing dipping sauces ready! You might have to get ready to throw-down too, as it might be a fight to grab the last turkey tenders left on the plate!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Wild Turkey Breast sliced into thin strips

  • Cooking Oil (Vegetable or Canola)

  • 2 Eggs

  • 1 Cup of Milk

  • 1 gallon zip lock bag

  • Kentucky Kernel Seasoned Flour

  • Shore Lunch Spicy Buffalo Style Batter (if you want some kick!)

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat oil on medium-high to 360-370 degrees

  • Combine 2 eggs and milk into a small bowl - beat eggs and mix into your egg wash

  • Dip each wild turkey tender into the egg wash,

  • Drop in a gallon zip-lock bag and dredge in Kentucky Kernel flour. Coat well and shake off any excess batter

    • I like to do about 4 tenders at a time — any more and the batter mix gets clumpy

  • Deep fry the wild turkey tenders until golden brown

    • Typically 4-5 minutes

  • Serve with your favorite BBQ or Wing-inspired dipping sauces!
